Taking place June 5 - 11, 2017, Parachute Safe Kids Week will focus on promoting safe and active transportation: Walk, Bike, Wheel, which includes walking, cycling, skateboarding, scootering and other wheeled activities.
Now in its 21st year, Parachute Safe Kids Week is an annual national awareness week developed to bring attention to predictable and preventable injuries in children. Many Canadians are surprised to learn that preventable injuries kill more children every year than any other disease, and worst of all 1 child dies every 9 hours.
We invite you to help keep children safe by participating in Safe Kids Week.
Parachute will support you with a Community Toolkit containing resources and tools to roll out a successful Parachute Safe Kids Week in your community. You can use the Community Toolkit to help you organize activities and events to keep children safe on their travels as they walk, bike and wheel.
The toolkit will include:
- A backgrounder and evidence-based key messages tipsheet
- An event and social media guide
- Resources including: Reflective Snap Wristbands (50), Clifford Takes a Walk Books (2), 2V1 Helmet Fitting Bookmarks (50), Concussion Bookmarks (50), Parachute #everydaysuperhero Stickers (90), Concussion Posters (10), Pledge Cards (4), 3-Pack Crayons (20), Colouring Sheets (2), Parachute Safe Kids Week Postcards (50).
These toolkits are now available to order for $35/kit plus $10 shipping and handling, and will be mailed out starting the week of April 24, 2017.
Parachute will be developing a national media release and social media campaign using the hashtag #everydaysuperhero, as well as #safekidsweek, in support of activities happening in communities across the country.
